Recommendations
In my opinion, there are always room for growth, improvements and changes within any organization. Ferndale's Adult & Alternative Education does offer programs such as lifelong education and adult education through technology-based courses. Adults should be provided with alternative educational options, which are aligned with graduation requirements. The alternative educational options should be efficient and effective resources. My recommendations are tutorial programs, college entrance courses, or Michigan Virtual High School. What are some other recommendations, upgrades, or changes that are necessary for adult learning?

My first recommendation for FAAE is to implement at-home access to some of the coursework. At present, all work must be completed in the school's computer lab, even though the courses are accessed via the internet - Access is currently via the school's INTRAnet, which means that students who are ill and absent cannot make up their "homework" from home the way an on ground course can.
ReplyDeleteMy second recommendation is to implement more authentic assessments and real-world applications within the distance learning courses. This would require a live facilitator to grade projects, but would create a more relevant learning experience for the adults.
Third, I recommend adding multimedia components to the online modules, to promote engagement. The majority of current instruction via the distance learning courses is text-based, and does not appeal to varied multiple intelligence and learning styles.
*correction* -In talking with the counselor at parent-teacher conferences today, she informed me that two of my recommendations (which I had not yet made to them) are already being acted upon! See my latest post.
ReplyDeleteThat is so wonderful for you and the school to have the same thought process as far as what is necessary for implementing better learning opportunities for the adult learners. When does these recommendations suppose to launched?
